Our Statement of faith

OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

Peoples Church of Kununurra Statement of Faith

The authority of the scriptures will always govern the church. The following basic Biblical beliefs of the Christian Church are to be taught and practiced:

1. The divine inspiration, inerrant, authority and all sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures (John 10:35; 17:17; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21)

2. There is one God who is eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:26; Isa. 6:8; John 15:26; Mark. 1:10-11; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14).

3. That Jesus Christ was God manifest in the flesh conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary-being, perfect God and perfect man (Heb. 1:3, 8; Col. 2:9; Luke 1:31, 35; 1 Peter 2:22).

4. That all mankind is fallen, sinful and potentially eternally lost, and that Jesus Christ alone can give forgiveness of sins and eternal life through virtue of His substitutionary death at Calvary (Rom. 3:23; 7:11-13; 6:23; 5:12, 18).

5. That this eternal life is available to all who have personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and exercise repentance toward God (Rom. 6:23; Gal. 3:22; John 3:16, 36; Acts 20:21)

6. The personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the final Judgement of God [Premillennial] (John 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 4:15-17; Rev. 19:11-16).

7. The life to come is a conscious existence after death with its eternal rewards and punishments (Matt. 25:31-46; Rom. 6:23; John 3:36; 1 Cor. 3:12-15).

8. The two ordinances of the Christian Church are:

Baptism – being the “Baptism of Believers in water in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit upon their profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a symbol of their fellowship in His death, burial and resurrection and being His disciple

The Lord’s Supper – being a memorial until He comes, of the sacrifice of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. To this weekly service of worship and remembrance, all true fellowshipping believers in our Lord Jesus Christ are welcome to participate.

9. The priesthood of all believers and the function of each member of the body of Christ (1 Pet. 2:5, 9; 1 Cor. 12:12; 13:8a; Gal. 3:28).

10. God calls men to be elders to care for the Church. The Church recognises them as divinely appointed and will encourage those qualified to fill the office (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Tit. 1:5-9).

11. God calls people to be deacons/deaconesses to administer the Church. The Church recognises them as being spiritually gifted and will encourage those qualified to fill the office (Acts 6:3; 1 Tim. 3:8-13).
